E2 Tradability profile
Topic
By default, the tradability profile of services is low; unlike the tradability profile of production—where a good is produced in one location and consumed in another—service provision requires the provider and the customer to coincide in time and space, as happens in a supermarket. This mandatory coincidence between provider and customer anchors competition within the services sector to a local or national scale, rather than a global one.
However, within the services sector, there is a growing and distinct subset of activities that *are* tradable over a distance: call centers, remote professional services, and streaming. In these activities, the provider and the customer no longer need to coincide in time and space; consequently, this remotely tradable subset achieves the global scale that the default low-tradability profile denies to the rest of the services sector.
This reflects the same variation by specific business line that the cross-cutting "Geographic Scope and Tradability" modifier anticipates for each track: within the services track itself, a supermarket falls under the non-tradable or local segment of the tradability profile, whereas a remote service falls under a regional or global tradable segment, even though both belong to the same services track.
