M1 Stable permanence in the current segment
Topic
Stable persistence within the prevailing tier is the default mode of kinship intensity—the trajectory that drives *Inequality*, and to a lesser extent *Population* and *Power*, while the system remains in that same tier. As long as a society stays within the same kinship intensity tier, there is no inherent oscillation within that mode; that is, there is no internal cycle causing it to alternate between distinct states, as occurs in other modes. Kinship intensity simply remains in the prevailing tier, without shifting due to its own internal dynamics.
Stable persistence in the prevailing tier is interrupted only when the trigger for a kinship intensity transition is activated. Until that trigger—a sustained, widespread shift in the mechanisms for recruiting individuals to positions of authority and trust that persists beyond a single political cycle or generation—is activated, the society remains in that state of kinship intensity, even if the default effective unit of trust and loyalty is tested during specific disputes within that same tier. Only with a kinship intensity transition does this stable persistence in the prevailing tier come to an end, allowing the society to move from one kinship intensity tier to another.
