E1 Knowledge assets and platforms
Topic
Knowledge assets and information/knowledge platforms comprise the accumulated stock of knowledge, patents, and algorithms; digital platforms; data treated as an asset; and human capital specialized in research and development. None of these assets stands in isolation; they depend on inputs delivered from other tracks via specific entry points.
The Information/Knowledge track receives specialized human capital from Track 6 and R&D funding from Track 5. It is this R&D funding that directly fuels the innovation index—a measure of the intensity of new knowledge generation based on patents and R&D investment—while specialized human capital sustains the track's capacity to convert that funding into a stock of knowledge, patents, and effective algorithms.
In turn, the Information/Knowledge track delivers innovations and technologies that boost productivity in the Production, Services, and Resources/Extraction tracks, while also generating intellectual property revenues for Track 5. Productivity per worker—a metric already tracked in the Production diagnosis—thus serves as a visible point where this output manifests: improvements in the knowledge assets and platforms of this track do not remain contained within Information/Knowledge but translate into productivity gains measured internally by the other three tracks.
Knowledge assets and platforms, therefore, form the foundation for the innovation index, digital market concentration, the speed of technology adoption, and the share of output attributable to artificial intelligence systems. Any change in the entry points for specialized human capital or R&D funding is ultimately reflected in one of these four indicators; likewise, any change in the stock of knowledge or digital platforms alters the innovations and technologies supplied to the Production, Services, and Resources/Extraction tracks, as well as the intellectual property revenues channeled to Track 5.
